Get indexed and snippet-eligible first; Google's AI answers draw only from that pool

Why it matters
Google states that to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode a page must be indexed and eligible for a snippet, with no additional technical requirements. Its 2026 guide says AEO and GEO are SEO, because generative features run on core ranking and quality systems using retrieval and query fan-out. Pages that don't rank for related sub-queries rarely get pulled in.
How to do it
- Fix indexing errors in Search Console before any AI-specific work
- Make sure key pages don't carry nosnippet or a very low max-snippet unless intended
- Cover the sub-questions a fan-out would ask on the same page or closely linked pages
