Check that your site is included in the Search generative AI setting in Search Console

Why it matters
Since 2026 Search Console has a site-wide Search generative AI control covering AI Overviews and AI Mode, rolled out to all sites by August 31, 2026. Google's AI guide says a site must be included to be eligible for display, and preferred source badges in AI answers also require it. Excluding a site means no traffic or impressions from those features.
How to do it
- Open Search Console settings for each property and confirm the generative AI setting is set to include
- Agree internally who may change it, since it is site-wide and cannot target single pages
- Use nosnippet or data-nosnippet for page-level or passage-level limits instead
