Measure AI visibility with first-party reports plus prompt tracking across engines
| Impact | Evidence | Applies to | Last checked |

Why it matters
Google's Search generative AI performance reports (June 2026, global since August 31, 2026) show impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode, and Bing's AI Performance report (February 2026) shows Copilot citations and grounding queries. ChatGPT tags referral links with utm_source=chatgpt.com. None of these cover every engine, and Google warns that no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems, so external tracking measures observed answers, not Google's internals.
How to do it
- Open the generative AI report in Search Console and AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools
- Segment analytics by utm_source=chatgpt.com and AI referrers such as perplexity.ai
- Track a fixed set of buyer prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and AI Overviews over time
- Record which competitor and third-party URLs get cited instead of you
