Does FAQ schema still work in Google?
No. FAQ schema no longer produces rich results in Google. Google limited FAQ rich results to authoritative government and health sites in August 2023, deprecated the feature on May 7, 2026, and removed its documentation in June 2026. Visible Q&A content can still help readers and AI answers; the FAQPage markup itself earns no Google enhancement.

Why it stopped working
Google limited FAQ rich results to authoritative government and health sites in August 2023, then deprecated the feature entirely as of May 7, 2026 and removed its documentation in June 2026. FAQ is no longer in the structured data gallery. The FAQ content itself can still help users and AI answers.
What to do instead
- Keep visible Q&A sections where they genuinely help readers
- Leave existing FAQPage markup in place only if another consumer uses it; it gives no Google enhancement
- Put the answer to the main question in body copy near the top
Questions
Should I remove FAQ schema from my site?
There is no Search reason to rush. Google said in 2023 that unused structured data does not cause problems for Search, and it now gives no enhancement either. Keep existing FAQPage markup only if another consumer of your structured data uses it.
Is FAQ schema still worth it for AI search?
Not for Google's AI features. Google's 2026 AI guide says structured data isn't required for generative AI search and there is no special schema.org markup to add. The visible questions and answers are what can help, so put the answer to the main question in body copy near the top.
Which sites still get FAQ rich results?
None, since the May 2026 deprecation. Between August 2023 and May 2026 they were shown only for well-known, authoritative government and health websites, and FAQ has been removed from Google's structured data gallery.
